Musical Theatre LESSONS

Throughout both our Singing & Musical Theatre classes we provide breathing techniques from in depth vocal workouts to enable the voice to have a better range and tone to belting safely, diaphragmatic breathing and the bel-canto singing method. We cover a wide range of music styles specialising in Musical Theatre and encompassing Pop Jazz and RnB to compliment not just Musicals but Modern Drama Performances and Pantomimes.

Our musical theatre lessons incorporate acting through song, musical vocal characterisation, learning the importance of ensuring continuity in performance, vocal techniques and singing safely and belting elements in musical theatre for beginners to advanced integration.

Music Theatre Classes Wakefield Stage School

Each term we choose a different theme whether that be preparation for a performance, or studying the composers and lyricists and background of their work from Lin Manuel Miranda, Stephen Sondheim, Kander & Ebb, Rogers & Hammerstein, Alan Menken, Stephen Schwartz. We undertake study and performances based on the different styles of each area of musical theatre which can then be integrated into our Live Performances to create a sound musical theatre performer.

Singing Classes

Within our singing classes we work on different styles of singing from choosing a Ballad, Uptempo, Patter, Torch and Anthem, Comedy, Point Number, Pop, Operetta, Musical Theatre, Classical, Belt, Character Pastiche, Parlour, Blues, Musical Hall, Rock, Jazz. Developing these different styles of songs help with performances and choosing songs that best suit your voice aid casting and audition skills.

We have the ability to provide optional exams in Musical Theatre from Grades 1-8 through to Diploma Levels as a Trinity College Registered Examination Centre. We also offer private examination lessons to undertake ABRSM Exams in Singing and Music Theory Grades 1-8.

Vocal Technique Workshops

Our Vocal Technique Workshops help build understanding of the importance of health and safety In performance including proper warm up and cool down techniques, safe belting, different types of belt for musical theatre performers. We also work on breathing and phrasing, gestures and accents. Working with musical theatre characters that are in and out of context to develop appropriate vocal characterisations.
